LANSING, Mich. — State Sen. Lana Theis on Friday encouraged Southeast Michigan residents affected by recent power outages to attend a series of town hall meetings being hosted in person and online by the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC).
“Last month’s winter storms caused outages at hundreds of thousands of homes across Southeast Michigan,” said Theis, R-Brighton. “These occurrences have become too common in recent years and I look forward to people having the opportunity to view their concerns with the reliability of the service they are paying for.”
The MPSC will hold two in-person town halls for residents affected by the recent ice storm. The events will be held at the following locations:
Monday, March 20, from noon to 2:30 p.m. at American 1 Credit Union Event Center, 128 W. Ganson St. in Jackson.
Monday, March 20, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Fordson High School’s auditorium, 13800 Ford Road in Dearborn.
Participants will have a chance to hear from MPSC commissioners about efforts to improve the state’s power grid and also have a chance to ask questions or provide public comment.
Additionally, the MPSC will hold a virtual town hall meeting, live streamed over Microsoft Teams on Tuesday, March 21. The event will take place from 6 to 8 p.m., and a link to participate will be posted closer to the day of the virtual town hall at the event’s webpage.
“These town hall meetings will be excellent opportunities for residents affected by the recent power outages and delays in service to voice their concerns and hopefully get some answers,” Theis said. “These continued, extended outages are becoming more frequent and costing people time, money and stress. Residents deserve better service from the state’s massive utility companies and I hope both the utility companies and MPSC commissioners listen to residents and start working on real, meaningful changes.”
